The Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC): step behind the scenes of remembrance and meet the craftspeople caring for war cemeteries. From engraving to research and reburial, discover the remarkable skills that keep memory alive.

The Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC)

The CWGC Visitor Centre is a unique interpretation centre located in the heart of the First World War battlefields.

It offers visitors the opportunity to discover the work of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC), the organisation responsible for commemorating Commonwealth service personnel who died during the two World Wars across the globe.

Visitors can observe skilled craftspeople at work in the engraving, carpentry and metalworking workshops, while learning about the methods used to maintain cemeteries and memorials more than a century after their creation.

The exhibition also explores the research, recovery and reburial of soldiers found on former battlefields, providing valuable insight into the ongoing efforts to preserve their memory.
